Proposal for developing an Anesthesia Chapter for the AABIP

////Proposal for developing an Anesthesia Chapter for the AABIP

The Mission of the Anesthesia chapter is to improve the anesthesia support and perioperative care of patients undergoing interventional pulmonary and bronchoscopic procedures

The goals of the chapter are

  1. Education:
    • Improving knowledge, competence and performance of anesthesiologists involved in providing anesthesia for patients undergoing interventional pulmonary procedures
    • Increase awareness among interventional pulmonologists regarding the available anesthesia tools and methods that can enhance and support the performance of interventional pulmonary and bronchoscopic procedures
    • Provide consultation regarding establishing anesthesia support service in the bronchoscopy suite outside the operating room
  2. Communication
    • Develop a communication network of anesthesiologists with expertise in the field of anesthesia for interventional pulmonary and bronchoscopic procedures.  This network can share their expertise in the field by creating multiple educational modalities such as videos, presentation, and scientific meetings for interested anesthesiologists and interventional pulmonologists.
  3. Research
    • Developing research collaborations aimed at examining the safety and techniques of anesthesia and establishes evidence based safe anesthesia practice for interventional pulmonary and bronchoscopic procedures. This research will enrich the scant anesthesia literature in the field and enable the chapter to create guidelines for the anesthesia practice for interventional pulmonary and bronchoscopic procedures.

The chapter will invite anesthesiologists with expertise in providing anesthesia for interventional pulmonary procedure based on recommendations from interventional pulmonologists with whom they have worked. This will allow the chapter to create a core group of experts.  Membership will be also available for anesthesiologists with interest in the field.
