Program Overview and Course Objectives

This post-graduate course is designed for experienced thoracic endoscopists and will cover indications, contraindications, and clinical applications of various procedures in the field of interventional pulmonology including: rigid bronchoscopy, laser bronchoscopy, endobronchial stent insertion, transbronchial needle aspiration, percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy, cryotherapy, electrocautery, photodynamic therapy and medical thoracoscopy. Lung cancer detection with endobronchial ultrasound will also be addressed. Newer bronchoscopic therapies for emphysema and asthma and newer diagnostic methods for sampling nodules will also be discussed. Course format will include lectures, discussion sessions, video instruction and hands-on laboratory sessions. The goal of the course is to acquaint the attendee with the above procedures and the equipment required to perform the procedures.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, attendees should be able to:

    • Identify the indications and contraindications and proper technique of applications of the above procedures.
    • Discuss the basic principles of laser application, electrocautery and cryotherapy.
    • Describe the physiology of central airway obstruction and how it can be modified by various endoscopic therapies.
    • Define the role of TBNA, EBUS, and fluorescence bronchoscopy in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer.
    • Describe the pleural anatomy and the indications and contraindications of medical thoracoscopy.
    • Explain the indications and technique of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy.
    • Define management strategy for hemoptysis
    • Understand the updated lung cancer screening guidelines and implementation of a screening center
    • Understand the 8th edition of lung cancer diagnosis and staging
    • Identify molecular markers for lung cancer.
    • Identify the bronchoscopic and minimally invasive surgical management of lung nodules.

Accreditation

Lahey Clinic is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to providing continuing medial education for physicians.

Credit Designation

The Lahey Clinic designates this live activity for a maximum of 33.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

All lectures and laboratory sessions will be held at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, Massachusetts. A block of hotel rooms has been held at the Burlington Marriott Hotel, which is within walking distance to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. The hotel also provides a shuttle to and from Lahey Hospital & Medical Center. Rooms will be held in the block until March 14, 2017, after which time reservations will be accepted on a space available basis. Includes: course syllabus, didactic sessions, hands on Tuesday, 1 continental breakfast, lunch, and break refreshments. Opportunity to earn Certificate of Accomplishment in EBUS TBNA in addition to CME credits.

2 Day Didactic and Lab Sessions (April 10 & 11, 2018) $1450

Includes: 2 day didactic and laboratory sessions,course syllabus, 2 continental breakfasts, 2 luncheons and break refreshments.

2 Day Didactic Session ONLY (No laboratory session included) $685

Includes: course syllabus, didactic sessions,2 continental breakfasts, 2 lunches, breakrefreshments, and 1 reception/dinner.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be received by March 1, 2018. After this date, a refund will not be guaranteed unless a replacement is found. There will be a $200 fee for all cancellations prior to March 1, 2018.
